What does the Hedges g mean in this meta-analysis?

Cross Validated Asked by CharlieCal on December 15, 2021

I am looking at the outcome scores of the WOMAC for the three studies included in the meta analysis, but I am having a hard time figuring out what the data means in Table III. Could someone help me figure out how to explain if the WOMAC Scores were improved by the intervention according to Table III and what the significance is of the Hedges g at 6 and 12 weeks? Does this mean the intervention was statistically significant?

Thank you!

One Answer

A few studies indicate an increase in WOMAC scores suggest improvement and a few other studies note that a decrease in scores imply that there is an improvement in the effect-size. This happens because ratings method are changed e..g measuring pain in term of increase or decrease..

What is the significance of g at 6-wees and at 12 weeks ? Hedges' g signifies the the standardized effect-size. It indicates whether there is any change in g over a prolonged period - just to reassure or validate effect of a direct or "indirect" intervention.
