Ask Ubuntu Asked by Bram on December 25, 2020
My workstation has no ACPI S3 available:
ACPI: (supports S0 S4 S5)
So instead, I wanted to try suspend to disk instead.
I have an adequatly sized swap partition (larger than my RAM,) which is correctly targetted for the resume.
To suspend, I ran s2disk
from the uswsusp package, and I ran it without X running, to take GPUs out of the equation.
When I woke the machine, the OS came back, and restored me to the console with the s2disk command just executed. So that’s good. But the screen was all garbled:
I tried to rectify this with service console-font restart
but my machine has no such service.
The output from the kernel when woken:
ACPI: Waking up from system sleep state S4

Thu 12 Nov 2020 09:58:51 PM PST: performing hibernate
Why is the console font garbled when coming back from hibernate?
I also tried hibernating from X, but that resulted in an unnamed kernelOops.
